Saih Residence III

The clearest idea of the three Saih Shuaib houses, and the most committed materially. The upper floor is a single rust-toned volume, and rather than punching windows through a wall the design cuts its face into a row of deep recessed bays, each holding a planter. The result reads as a thick screen: the depth of each reveal shades the glazing behind it and the planting softens the aperture, so the house can face the street directly without giving up privacy. Below, a pale concrete base runs out to become the boundary wall itself, so the coloured volume appears to rest on a continuous plinth rather than on the ground. The rear is handled as the informal side — a covered terrace with an outdoor kitchen opening onto lawn, reached by an external stair.
