Horizon House

The site sits among conventional pitched-roof villas, so the question was how to take a view without simply out-building the neighbours. The answer is to stack and step: three horizontal slabs, each set back from the one below, so every level gains its own planted terrace and a clear sightline over the roofs in front. The setbacks also break down the bulk — from the street the house reads as a series of light horizontal trays rather than a three-storey mass. Warm timber lines the soffits and marks the vertical circulation core, interrupting the white banding and giving the composition a centre to turn around. At ground level the lowest slab continues outward on slim columns to form the carport, tying the building into its plot.
